The death of George Floyd sent shock waves around the world and has become a catalyst for demands for change. Millions have demonstrated in many different countries, calling for a change not just in policing, but in the way society treats black and ethnic minority people.
Why are they so often bottom of the pile in terms of educational opportunity, employment, housing and health? Does what happened in Minneapolis represent a moment in history after which real structural change will come? Or is it just another false dawn, like so many that have come before with protests against racist brutality in America?
