Sir Tom Jones and Kelly Clarkson
Sir Tom Jones picks his Tracks of My Years in an interview from the archives which was first broadcast in 2008. Plus Kelly Clarkson performs live as part of Radio 2 House Music.
As Sir Tom Jones approaches his 80th birthday Ken revisits a Tracks of My Years interview with the legendary singer from the archives. Their chat was first broadcast in 2008 and on this episode Tom's choices come from Wilson Pickett and Robert Palmer. Tom's incredible career in music spans six decades and he's sold over 100 million records. Tom is a music icon, who has achieved hit singles in both the UK and the USA with songs including; It's Not Unusual, What's New Pussycat, She's A Lady, Delilah, Sex Bomb and the theme from the James Bond movie Thunderball. From 1969-1971 he had his own TV show, This Is Tom Jones, which featured star guests including Shirley Bassey, Nancy Sinatra, Peter Sellers, Cher, Dusty Springfield and Liza Minnelli. Tom also played himself in the 1996 Tim Burton movie Mars Attacks and made a guest appearance in hit US TV show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. More recently Tom has returned to our screens as a coach on The Voice UK for eight seasons in the 2010s, with one of his artists winning the show on two occasions.
Ken also has live music from American singer-songwriter Kelly Clarkson as part of Radio 2 House Music. She'll be playing her brand new single plus one of her classic hits. She rose to fame in 2002, after winning the first season of American Idol, which earned her a record deal with RCA Records. Kelly's debut single, "A Moment Like This", topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and became the country's best-selling single of 2002. It was followed by the release of her debut studio album, "Thankful" in 2003, which debuted a-top the US Billboard 200. Trying to reinvent her image, Kelly parted ways with Idol management and shifted to pop rock music for her second album, "Breakaway" in 2004. After numerous top 40 radio number-one singles, such as "Since U Been Gone" and "Because of You", the album sold over 12 million copies worldwide and earned Clarkson two Grammy Awards.
Ken's got another round of the legendary PopMaster music quiz and your dedications with today's love song. There's also the record and album of the week.
