With Cathy Macdonald

Mona Siddiqui & Esa Aldegheri explore our basic need for relationships. Catrina Rose joins them to discuss Crip Camp, a documentary about the US disabled civil rights movement.

One of the core needs we have as human beings is to relate and connect with others. This is what makes us who we are. Cathy Macdonald and her guests, Mona Siddiqui, Professor of Islamic and Interreligious Studies at the University of Edinburgh, and Esa Aldegheri, an academic and activist working in the field of migration and integration, look at relationships and how they’ve been affected by this current pandemic we’re facing. And it’s just not our relationship with our family, they also explore our attitudes towards neighbourliness and how that’s changed in recent weeks, along with Canon Dave Richards, from St Pauls and St Georges Scottish Episcopal Church in Edinburgh, who are participating in the nationwide Your Neighbour Organisation.

Beyond the family and neighbourhood, we hear from some overseas friends, including Reverend Gillean Maclean of the Scots Kirk in Lausanne, Switzerland, and Reverend Ian Gilmour, of St Andrew’s Scots Kirk, Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Broadcaster Catrina Rose joins Esa Aldegheri and Mona Siddiqui to consider those who are particularly vulnerable or at risk at the moment. And they’ll also be discussing a new documentary, produced by Michelle and Barack Obama, which casts light on the rise of the disabled civil rights movement in the US and the revolutionary teenage holiday camp that inspired it.
