Bette Midler chooses the Tracks of My Years and live music from Rumer
Bette Midler chooses the Tracks of My Years from an interview first broadcast in 2008. Plus Ken has a live music from Rumer as part of Radio 2 House Music.
Bette Midler chooses the Tracks of My Years with Ken back in 2008 following the release of her album The Best of Bette. The compilation celebrated Bette's 35 year career in showbusiness. Her talents encompass theatre, film, songwriting, singing and comedy. Bette won her first of three Grammy Awards for Best New Artist in 1974, a BAFTA in 1981 for Best Leading Actress for her role in the film The Rose and presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2012. Born in Hawaii, Bette married artist Martin Von Haselberg in 1986 and they have a daughter called Sophie who is also an actress.
In 2008 Bette began a two year residency in Las Vegas to perform Bette Midler: The Showgirl Must Go On. Her second two chosen tunes of the week in 2008 come from Dusty Springfield and Prince. In the following years Bette returned to Broadway after a 30 hiatus, won a Tony Award for her role in the 2017 production of Hello, Dolly! and sung at the Oscars and the Royal Variety Performance.
Ken has live music on the show from Rumer as part of Radio 2 House Music. Rumer lives in Macon, Georgia in the USA - the musical town that produced both Otis Redding and the Allman Brothers band. There she discovered the songs of country music hit maker Hugh Prestwood. His songs were the catalyst for her new album Nashville Tears; fifteen of the songwriter’s finest gems, including several never recorded until now. Rumer made the record in in Reba McEntire’s studio in Nashville with some of the city’s finest session musicians.
Ken also has the daily love song, record and album of the week plus another round of PopMaster. If you'd like to get in touch with the show email Ken.Bruce@bbc.co.uk
