Èiginn air Eilean Lesbos

Èiginn air Eilean Lesbos

Air Eilean Lesbos sa Ghrèig tha staing an luchd-imrich a' dol am miosad. Tha mu 20,000 fògarrach agus luchd-imrich ann am fìor dhroch shuidheachadh; bidh mòran ga ghairm mar "ifrinn". Mar a tha Andreas Wolff ag aithris, tha mòran theaghlaichean le clann bheaga beò taobh a-muigh a' champa oifigeil ann am Moria, a chaidh a dhealbhachadh airson 3000 neach, agus chan eil dealan aig a' chuid as motha ann am fuachd a' gheamhraidh. Bidh iad a' geàrradh seann chraobhan ola gus teintean a losgadh, rud a bhios a' cur cais air muinntir an àite. Chan fhada bhon a bha an dà thaobh a' togail fianais ann am prìomh bhaile Lesbos, Mitilini.

Dh'fhàg an riaghaltas na fògarraich gun chothrom air taic mheidigeach bhon Iuchair an-uiridh. Tha aire an riaghaltais air togail ionadan-fuirich dùinte. Tha am ministear a' dol às àicheadh gur e prìosain a bhios annta agus e cuideachd air innse gun tèid bacaidhean a chur dhan mhuir gus daoine a chumail air falbh. Thuirt iasgair a chaidh ainmeachadh airson Duais Sìth Nobel ris a' phrògram, "chan urrainnear bacadh a chur sa mhuir".

Crisis on the Island of Lesbos

Crisis on the Island of Lesbos

On the Greek island of Lesbos the migrant crisis is worsening. Around 20,000 refugees and migrants are in a precarious situation; many of them call it "hell". As Andreas Wolff reports, many families with small children live outside the official Moria camp, designed for 3000, and most of them have no electricity in the bitter winter cold. They are chopping down ancient olive trees to light fires, which upsets the locals. Both have recently protested in the capital of Lesbos, Mitilini.

The government have left the refugees without access to healthcare since July of last year and are instead focussed on building closed pre-departure centres. The minister denies they are prisons and has also announced plans to install barriers in the sea to prevent arrivals in the first place. A local fisherman and Nobel Peace Prize nominee told this programme, "the sea cannot be blocked".
