Muir Ar n-Athraichean

A short documentary charting the intimate relationship between fishing and Gaelic.

'S e fiolm aithriseach goirid a tha ann am Muir ar n-athraichean anns a bheilear a' dèanamh sgrùdadh air a' cheangal eadar iasgach agus Gàidhlig. Air a chlàradh ann am Beinn na Faoghla agus ann an Uibhist a Deas, tha am fiolm a' sealltainn air mar a tha Gàidhlig na pàirt air leth cudromach den dòigh anns am bi iasgairean a' dèiligeadh ris an àrainneachd mhara. Thathar cuideachd a' coimhead air mar a tha seo fo chunnart air sgàth cur an sàs nan Roinnean Dìon Mara a bhios a' cur stad air iasgairean bho bhith a' dol do chuid dhe na làraichean iasgaich as fheàrr ann an Innse Gall.

Muir ar n-athraichean is a short documentary charting the intimate relationship between fishing and the Gaelic language. Filmed in Benbecula and South Uist, the film explores how Gaelic forms an intrinsic part of fishermen’s engagement with the marine environment, and how this engagement is under threat from the proposed implementation of Marine Protected Areas banning fishermen from some of the Outer Hebrides’s most productive fishing grounds.
