Brexit: The Transition
Fishing, food standards, trade and access to labour - just a few of the things that will be negotiated over the next 11 months as the UK leaves the EU.
The UK is beginning life OUTSIDE the EU. For now not much changes, since EU rules - including the Common Agricultural Policy and the Common Fisheries Policy - still apply. We'll also remain in the single market and the customs union until the end of the transition period. But, that transition period is due to expire at the end of the year, leaving 11 months to negotiate both a trade deal with the EU, and the rules around our future relationship with them on everything from access to fishing waters to security cooperation.
In this episode, Anna Hill brings together an expert panel to talk through what the next 11 months mean for our food, farming and fishing. They are:
-Elspeth Macdonald, Chief Executive Officer at the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation
-Allie Renison, Head of the EU and Trade at the Institute of Directors
-Julian Marks, the Managing Director at the international vegetable growing company, Barfoots
