The Real Thing perform live
The Real Thing perform live in the Radio 2 Piano Room and Joe Brown picks his Tracks of My Years.
The Real Thing perform live in the Radio 2 Piano Room as they celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2020 with the release of a brand-new Best Of album featuring a never-before-released track. Formed in 1970, The Real Thing’s incredible rise from the streets of Toxteth in Liverpool to the bright lights of New York is chronicled in a new album full of incredible hits, including β€Can’t Get By Without You’, β€You’ll Never Know What You’re Missing’, β€Can You Feel The Force’, and of course the ubiquitous song that saw the band become the first all-black British group to hit number one in the UK charts: β€You to Me Are Everything’.
Joe Brown MBE is picking the Tracks of My Years with songs from Rag 'n' Bone Man and Henry Gross. Joe is one of our great guitar pioneers, champion of the ukulele and king of the British rock β€n’ roll scene of the sixties. He’s filled the Royal Albert Hall, played Glastonbury and has just celebrated an amazing sixty years in the music business with a 3 month nationwide tour. Joe was born in Lincolnshire but when he was two his parents moved to Plaistow to run an East End pub – The Sultan. Music was his first love and in his spare time he formed a skiffle band called The Spacemen. Then he heard a new singer – Little Richard - and Joe’s love of rock and roll was born. As a session guitarist - his early career highlights include playing with Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran and Johnny Cash. Then Joe was signed up by the legendary impresario Larry Parnes and as "Joe Brown and the Bruvvers" he had a string of hits including β€A Picture of Youβ€ , β€It Only Took A Minuteβ€ and β€That’s What Love Will Doβ€. On one of their early tours the Beatles were the support act – and George Harrison became a good friend.
