First published in 1985 and abridged by Brian Gear.

Known around the world for his dry wit, writer, broadcaster and poet Clive James was born in 1939. Moving to England in 1962, he rose to prominence as a literary critic, TV columnist and presenter.

Clive James died aged 80 in November 2019.
