Adam Kay

Edi meets the medical registrar turned best selling author of 'This is Going to Hurt'.

In 2010, after six years of training and six years as a junior doctor, Adam Kay resigned from his job as senior registrar in gynaecology and obstetrics, too traumatised to return. His outstanding talent as musician, writer and comedian made him a sell out act on the comedy circuit, but it was in Edinburgh after many years performing at the fringe, that he walked on stage armed with the diaries from his time as a doctor. Little knowing that he had started a stratospheric performance and publishing phenomenon. His first book, drew from his hilarious and heart breaking diaries which blend a cynical and deeply caring attitude to people and life. 'This is Going to Hurt' has spent well over a year at number one in the Sunday times bestseller list, it’s still in second place, has sold 2 million copies worldwide, translated into 37 languages and is the best selling ebook of all time. His new book, Twas the nightshift before Christmas instantly reached number one on publication in October. He talks to Edi about humour as his own medicine, why he left hospital and how a meeting at the Churchill theatre in Edinburgh changed everything for the better.
