Leantar na hiomaitheoirí ó thús na traenála go dtí go mbaineann siad an chríochlíne amach i ndiaidh daofa an cúrsa iomlán 55.5 ciliméadar a dhéanamh, ina bhfuil reáchtáil, rothaíocht, dreapadóireacht agus cadhcáil, nó an cúrsa gairid a bhfuil fad 39 ciliméadar leis. Tá na hiomaitheoirí uilig ag tabhairt faoin rása ar chúiseanna éagsúla, agus tá a chuid aidhmeanna pearsanta ag gach duine acu.
