Mental health research in Wales

Alice Roberts hears how scientists in Wales are at the centre of health care developments. In this programme she looks at research being carried into mental health.

Academic and broadcaster Alice Roberts presents the series looking at health care development research in Wales.

In the third episode in the series Alice hears what scientists are doing to try and understand and treat people with mental health problems across the country.

Areas being investigated by researchers at the Haydn Ellis building at the University of Cardiff include bipolar disorder, PTSD and depression.

Case studies include a woman who suffered PTSD following an assault six years ago and a woman who suffers from severe long-term depression brought on by pregnancy.

Meanwhile Alice hears how the team in Cardiff played a big role in advising story-liners, writers and actors on EastEnders when dealing with pregnant character Stacey's dilemmas over post-partum psychosis. .
