Farming Today This Week: Insects
Sybil Ruscoe is joined by farmer Ben Taylor-Davies and Buglife's Matt Shardlow. She hears how a Twitter-spat led to a partnership to improve insects habitats on Ben's farm.
Sybil Ruscoe meets arable farmer Ben Taylor-Davies on his farm in Brampton Abbotts in Herefordshire. A Twitter-spat between Ben and Matt Shardlow from invertebrate conservation charity Buglife led to a new enterprise. Matt visited the farm to see what Ben had already done and both began working together to improve the habitats for insects on Ben's farm.
Matt joins Sybil and Ben as they scrabble in the Beetle banks to reveal a snapshot of the life that is being encouraged to thrive on the farm. They discuss the economic and environmental benefits of moving away from chemicals and how using nature's own creatures can transform crop protection. Theyask whether it's time for all farming to do the same.
