This time last year Britain had some home interest in the men’s singles with Kyle Edmund producing a spirited performance in defeat against eventual champion Novak Djokovic.

Edmund, and the home fans, were dreaming of a famous upset when he claimed the first set but the Serbian ultimately prevailed on Centre Court – as he ultimately did a week later when he took his fourth crown at SW19.
