Tiree Music Festival and Mari Kalkun in session

Bruce chats to festival director Stewart MacLennan about the 10th anniversary of the Tiree Music Festival, and Estonian singer and multi-instrumentalist Mari Kalkun is in session.

As the Tiree Music Festival gears up to celebrate its 10th Anniversary next weekend, Festival Director and Co-Founder Stewart MacLennan joins Bruce to look back at how the festival has grown over the past decade.

Although Celtic Connections may seem like a distant memory for many of us now, we have a stunning session from one of this year’s guests, Mari Kalkun. From Southern Estonia, Mari is a musician, singer and composer who is very much influenced by her Estonian roots. Many of her compositions are inspired by nature and Estonian folk music and poetry. She is a most talented multi-instrumentalist playing, piano, accordion, guitar, pipes, whistles and, in this session, the impressive Kannel.
