Welsh subsidies, UK animal welfare versus US, farm lessons in the classroom

The Welsh government plans a new sustainable farming scheme to replace basic payments which end in 2021. But the environment minister says she's had no assurances from Defra about funding.

Basic payments scheme for farmers will end in Wales from 2021. They'll be replaced with a 'sustainable farming' scheme which will reward farmers for public goods, similar to England. The Environment Minister says she's consulting farmers but has had no assurances from DEFRA about funding levels.
