Private Dancer and Night And Day

The album that changed everything for Tina Turner and the home of Joe Jackson's biggest hit are discussed by Johnnie and David Hepworth, with brand new and archive interview clips.

As the new series continues, Johnnie and David Hepworth listen to Tina Turner’s 1984 breakthrough album, which changed everything for her, Private Dancer (with a title track written by Mark Knopfler) followed by the 1982 home of Joe Jackson’s biggest hit, the critically acclaimed and UK and US Top 5 album Night And Day. Both are real favourites for our presenters.

In a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ archive interview with the late Roger Scott, Tina Turner talks about recording the album in just two weeks, with her vocals down in one week and the album being ready for release in a month. Tina also acknowledges the work of the British Electric Foundation.

In a brand new interview, recorded with Joe Jackson in Portsmouth for the programme, the vocalist and multi-instrumentalist talks about moving to New York and the different influences on the album. Interestingly he thought he was not making a best seller and had different feelings about the best potential single (not Steppin’ Out). He also describes his agreement with Bruce Springsteen about music videos in the MTV era.

As usual excerpts from key tracks are heard, including What’s Love Got To Do With It, Private Dancer, Let’s Stay Together, Better Be Good To Me, Another World, Target, Steppin’ Out, Breaking Us In Two and Real Men.
