A Veteran Remembers
Called up in the late 1940s, Roy Whittaker became a bass player in the developing jazz scene here when he was posted to Northern Ireland. This evening he recalls those happy days.
Roy Whittaker came to Northern Ireland in 1947 as a member of the Royal Army Medical Corps and as a developing bass player quickly became involved in the local jazz and dance band scene. The regimental dance band often played as support band to visiting British bands and he enjoyed the experience. He talks to Walter Love about those happy days, illustrated with some of the jazz which inspired him.
