Episode 5

Documentary series following the staff in Glasgow Central Station. Staff and passengers don their glitter and rainbow colours to celebrate Glasgow Pride.

Documentary series following the people that work all hours to keep Scotland’s busiest train station on track, delving into the buildings history with stories of the past. Central Station has been at the heart of Glasgow for 140 years, running over 950 trains a day for 32 million passengers a year. Day and night for one long summer we meet the people who make the station work. Central Station has long been Scotland’s busiest; it’s the northern terminus of the West Coast Main Line from London and the starting point for travel to hundreds of stations in mainland Britain. Over the decades the station has knitted itself into the lives of many people. For generations of Glasgow folk, particularly those that work here, Central Station has become part of the family.

In this fifth episode, the staff and passengers don their glitter and rainbow colours to celebrate Glasgow Pride - including Virgin customer service assistant Thomas, who arrives on a fabulous rainbow-clad train. Students from the Royal Conservatoire use the concourse as a location for a very special film, and Hashmi reveals some of the stations past in his tailors shop underneath the station. Driver Rab is up bright and early to get to his engine, and cleaner Alistair performs a quick turnaround for the morning rush hour. Paul Simon fans experience a wait on the low level as they head to the Hydro music venue and signaller Brian explains how Victorian engineering and modern technology all work together to keep the network running.
