Celebrating factual storytelling with Jad Abumrad, who explores our weird and wonderful univers, in Radiolab.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 4 Extra celebrates factual storytelling with Jad Abumrad. Back in 2002, Jad created Radiolab, a radio show which explores our weird and wonderful universe, with awe-inspiring tales.

This episode features a universal tale from the Radiolab, titled The Primordial Journey. In fact, we couldn't get much more universal in this week's theme, because our protagonists are the stem cells of the species.

The story begins in the very early stages of embryonic development and an epic struggle plays out, as a pugnacious band of cells marches toward a mysterious destiny, with the future of humanity resting on their shoulders.

As a factual storyteller, Jad prefers to let listeners experience something for themselves, rather than explain. Whilst Radiolab might sound conversational, each episode is meticulously produced, and Jad gives us an insight into his award-winning methods.

Jad also reflects on the evolution of Radiolab, from a one-man passion project, to a community of curious programme-makers, creating stories for millions of fans.

Produced and presented by Ali Gardiner.

First broadcast on Radio 4 Extra in 2019.
