Food prices after Brexit, the importance of saltmarshes and farm vets cutting antibiotic use

The uncertainty around Brexit is already having an impact on trade in malting barley. Charlotte Smith looks ahead to trade after 29 March.

Will food prices go up or down in the event of a No Deal Brexit? We hear conflicting views about the impact of tariff-free trade after Brexit. Meanwhile, one farmer says he could go out of business if trade is delayed.

At this time of year, farmers planting malting barley normally trade forward...selling their crop before it's been grown. But with the uncertainty around trade after Brexit, we hear that this year, that trade isn't happening.

A new report evaluates the true value of saltmarshes - as a habitat, for recreation, as a carbon sink and as a flood defence. Researchers hope the data will justify the expense of restoring and even creating new saltmarshes.

And, we kick off a week of programmes about the use of medicines on farm by asking a vet what the hot topics are right now. Unsurprisingly...one of them is Brexit!
