A rubbish habit
Scientists estimate that around 8 million tonnes of plastic end up in the ocean each year. And some environmental organisations are warning that by 2050, plastic could outweigh the entire fish population.Β So on Science CafΓ© this week, Adam Walton is talking to Steve Ormerod, Professor of Ecology at Cardiff University, about the extent of the problem - and how new habits might ease it. We also hearΒ how a team at Swansea University has managed to turn plastic waste into car fuel. And research at Aberystwyth University is helping to pinpoint how plastic collects in the IrishΒ Sea, which could lead to more effective ways of eliminating it.Β Β
