This week presenter Stephen Fairclough takes to the campaign trail with some of the candidates contesting seats in the first ever Welsh youth parliament election.

Thousands of 11 to 18-year-olds across Wales registered to vote in the election, with 480 young candidates standing for 40 constituency seats.

A further 20 youth parliament members have been selected by ‘partner organisations’ including Youth Cymru, Tros Gynnal Plant, Voices from Care, Barnardo’s Cymru and Learning Disability Wales with the aim of ensuring diversity and inclusivity for the new body.

The election was held throughout November, with young people casting their votes electronically.

The new democractic body comes as assembly members prepare to pass new laws lowering the voting age in Wales to 16.

The programme travels to Neath, Aberyswtwyth, Aberconwy, Wrexham and Cardiff Central constituencies to meet candidates nervously awaiting the results, following their hard-fought campaigns for election.

The successful candidates will serve a two-year term, with their first full meeting scheduled for February at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay.
