Rick Astley performs live
Rick Astley performs live in the Radio 2 Piano Room and Tim Booth, lead singer of the band James picks the Tracks of My Years.
Rick Astley performs live in the Radio 2 Piano Room with music from his brand new album Beautiful Life. Rick has sold over 40 million records and toured around the world. He describes his latest album as the most personal and emotional of his career. He wrote every song, played every instrument and sang every note himself. Rick was raised by his older siblings on a bizarre mix of prog rock, classic rock, indie rock and Northern Soul. He sang in a choir and drummed in a covers band. He was talent spotted at 19 by legendary 80s hit makers Stock Aitken and Waterman. He worked in their studio for a year as a tea boy, learning his craft before he got a shot at recording a single of his own. His classic 1987 solo debut Never Gonna Give You Up was a global smash, number 1 in 25 countries. Over the next five years, Rick had 13 international hit singles, including his own 1991 soulful ballad Cry For Help.
Tim Booth, lead singer of the band James picks the Tracks of My Years with songs from Regina Spektor and Leonard Cohen. The latest album from James is called Living In Extraordinary Times. It's their 15th studio album and their first since 2016. They are one of the UK's best loved bands and after signing to Factory Records in 1982 went on to have a string of hits that became the soundtrack to a generation, including; Sit Down, She's A Star and Laid. They've sold over 25 million albums worldwide and continue to tour around the globe.
