Andrew Marr presents a special edition of Start the Week at the Edinburgh Festivals, weaving together ancient stories and contemporary fiction - from Scotland to Iceland via ancient Greece.

He speaks to award-winning writers Pat Barker, ³§ΒαΓ³²Τ and James Robertson and the singer-songwriter Karine Polwart. Karine also performs live.

Pat Barker

Pat Barker is a novelist, best known for the Regeneration Trilogy based in WW1. Her new book, The Silence of the Girls, retells The Iliad from the perspective of one of the women.

James Robertson

James Robertson is a Scottish writer who has written in a number of different genres – historical fiction, realism, comedic surrealism. He also wrote a 365-word short story every day for a year.  His most recent novel is To Be Continued.

Karine Polwart

Karine Polwart is a multi-award winning Scottish songwriter and musician. Her previous album and theatre piece was Wind Resistance. In the autumn she will be touring her new album, Laws of Motion.

Karine peforms Young Man on a Mountain from her new album.
