Episode 1

Peter Jackson tells the story of the unbeaten post-WW1 season of the remarkable Mid-Rhondda FC - and its star player Jimmy Seed who was gassed while serving in the trenches.

Peter Jackson tells the story of the unbeaten season of the remarkable Mid-Rhondda FC through the eyes of one of its stars - only months after he'd been gassed in the trenches of France during World War One.

Mid-Rhondda emerged renewed after the Tonypandy riots and then the War to become a side willing to take on all-comers. And one of its stars was Jimmy Seed, turned down by Sunderland because they feared he wouldn't recover from twice being gassed while serving in the trenches. Now his grandson helps Peter uncover the story of how he now only survived but flourished to play for his country and lift the FA Cup.
