A Night at the Opera

Jamie MacDougall explores the wonderful world of opera with help from acclaimed baritone Sir Thomas Allen and head of costume at Scottish Opera, John Liddell.

Opera can sometimes seem a bit daunting to delve into, but Jamie MacDougall will be your friendly guide as he raises the curtain on a night of drama, passion and betrayal; from rousing overtures to spine-tingling arias and more than a few heart-breaking death scenes. Acclaimed baritone, Sir Thomas Allen, talks to Jamie about the highlights of a career spanning five decades and Scottish Opera's Head of Costumes, John Liddell, gives Jamie an insight into the work and detail that goes into creating the costumes for an opera production. Singer-songwriter, Eddi Reader, selects a beautiful performance by Maria Callas from 'Adriana Lecouvreur' and Jamie reveals what Scotland's top opera performers consider to be the greatest arias ever written.
