Join Mark Stephen and Euan McIlwraith for the latest outdoor activities from Shetland to the Borders, plus the key stories for those who live and work in the countryside.

Euan finds out about an innovative trial beginning this spring at the Trees for Life Dundreggan Conservation Estate in Glenmoriston near Loch Ness. The trial will harness the power of local mushrooms to boost reforestation of native trees.

Throughout the programme Mark spends some time in Glenesk in the Angus Glens in the company of Dalhousie Estate gamekeeper, Andy Malcolm. The estate runs wildlife tours led by Andy starting off at The Retreat Tearoom and Museum. Mark and Andy start off with their picnic and then head into the glen to see what they can spot. They also take in some of the interesting sights of Glenesk including the Queen's Well where Queen Victoria stopped to take a drink.

The Highland Clearances is one of the darker periods of our history. But now there are calls to reverse the process and get people back into the townships that were destroyed. Euan hears more about the plans from writer and member of Community Land Scotland, Professor Jim Hunter.

Glen Tanar Estate is running bird song identification courses. Ranger Eric Baird explains more about the idea to Euan.

And we're all about bird song this week as Euan brings us a Dawn Chorus Soundscape in preparation for a special radio event happening this weekend.
