Night Blossoms
Live sets by Tomoko Sauvage, MimiCof and Hatis Noit recorded at Spiritland in London. Part of Radio 3's Night Blossoms season of Japanese music and culture.
Verity Sharp introduces sets by three leading lights of Japanese experimental music in this London edition curated by Late Junction's Nick Luscombe and recorded at Spiritland in Kings Cross as part of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 3's Night Blossoms season. Tomoko Sauvage uses water-filled porcelain bowls and hydrophones for her electro-acoustic compositions; Kyoto-born, Berlin-based Midori Hirano aka MimiCof presents music from her album Moon Synch, created with the Buchla analogue modular synthesizer during her residency at the Electronic Music Studio in Stockholm; and Hatis Noit, the latest signing to Erased Tapes, is a unique, self-taught solo vocal performer, originally from the northern island of Hokkaido and now living in London. Her influences range from traditional Japanese gagaku and Western opera to avant-garde and contemporary pop vocalists.
