Kate Molleson introduces a week of Afternoon Concerts marking the 90th birthday of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ NOW and explores its music-making partnerships with key conductors.
From the band's beginnings as the Western Studio Orchestra in the Assembly Rooms Cardiff's City Hall, through the orchestra's adventurous tour in what was, then, East Germany, to its enduring three decade-long partnership with Conductor Laureate Tadaaki Otaka, Kate Molleson celebrates the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ National Orchestra of Wales' 90th Anniversary with a week of Afternoon Concerts that explore the orchestra's role in Welsh musical life and beyond. Kate begins her journey through the orchestra's nine-decade history with a vintage recording of its first appearance at the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Proms in 1971. and explores the role the ensemble plays in showcasing the work of Welsh composers.
