There's a theme of unashamed nostalgia for this special hour long edition as Nigel Ogden revisits the first edition of The Organist Entertains. Broadcast on 11 June 1969, the presenter was organist Robin Richmond who was the show's regular host until 1980. Included in the very first show were session performances from Gerald Shaw on the Leicester Square Odeon Compton, Harold Smart on electronics and Bryan Rodwell at the Davenport Theatre in Stockport featuring the solo trumpet of Syd Lawrence. Also featured on that first show was Len Rawle who had recently rescued the Wurlitzer organ from the Empire Cinema, Leicester Square and re-installed it at his home in Chorleywood. 49 years later, both the organ and its organist are still very much together as Nigel discovers when he catches up with Len to reflect on that first show from the summer of '69.
