Courtney Pine picks the Tracks of My Years
Courtney Pine, the jazz musician and multi-instrumentalist picks the Tracks of My Years. Ken also has another round of PopMaster and the daily Love Song.
Courtney Pine, the jazz musician and multi-instrumentalist picks the Tracks of My Years with songs from Bob & Marcia and Nina Simone. Courtney has been part of the British jazz scene for more than 30 years, his debut album 'Journey To The Urge Within' in 1987 was the first serious jazz album ever to make the British Top 40. Aside from being the pre-eminent figure in the resurgence of British jazz, Courtney became a renowned presenter and broadcaster, best known for his long running radio show for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 2, 'Jazz Crusade'. He was also awarded an O.B.E in the 2000 New Year's Honours, and was also made a C.B.E in 2009 for services to Music.
His latest album, 'Black Notes From The Deep' is the 19th of his stellar career, features guest vocalist Omar and includes a fresh interpretation of Herbie Hancock's Butterfly. Omar's vocal performance rides on top of the backing vocals of Charleen Hamilton - and of course there is Courtney's flowing, imaginative and creative solo performance.
Ken also has another round of PopMaster, the daily Love Song and the record and album of the week. If you want to contact the show, email - ken.bruce@bbc.co.uk.
