The New York-based poet Ron Padgett published his first poetry over 60 years ago. Ron inspired the ‘Chest of Drawers’ theme of this week’s edition of The Verb with his poem ‘Nothing in That Drawer’, a sonnet inspired by Ted Berrigan and Andy Warhol, and one of Ian McMillan’s favourite ever poems. The poet Harry Giles has written a poem especially for our ‘chest of drawers’ theme, ‘Thing Poem’, which is inspired by a recent house move. Harry explains why they enjoy anthropomorphising objects and why we should be kind to things we have, as well as being kind to ourselves for accumulating them. Harry also discusses their FLANEUR project, which invites you to go on a ¹ó±ôâ²Ô±ð³Ü°ù journey in a variety of spaces, giving you the option to ¹ó±ôâ²Ô±ð³Ü°ù and create a poem without ever leaving your room.

Laurie Bolger is a poet from London whose debut collection ‘Box Rooms’ is published by Burning Eye. Hollie introduces us to a poet who can get the party started hosting spoken word events like Bang Said The Gun one minute, and break your heart the next with tender poems celebrating heartbreak through the mundanity of the everyday. In that spirit we hear  'Living in A Shoebox', a poem the examining the end of a relationship through the objects accumulated, and Public House, a celebration of the pub as our second living room.
