Yasmin Evans follows three young care leavers to find out what it's like growing up in care, and how they are using creativity to turn their lives around.

Yasmin Evans follows three young care leavers to find out what it's like growing up in care, and how they are using creativity to turn their lives around.

With record numbers of children in care in 2017, Yasmin explores what it's been like for these care leavers growing up as "looked-after" children. How has growing up in care affected them? With care leavers disproportionately represented in prison, how are they avoiding becoming a statistic?

The documentary will explore the role that creativity has played in these young people’s journeys and its importance in helping them seek careers they are driven and passionate about. Sophie is an exciting new voice in writing, Duke, an accomplished MC, whilst Michael is a budding radio presenter who’s been speaking to Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham in a bid to improve the lives of other care leavers like himself.

All three creatives have been set a brief to perform a piece at the 1Xtra Live Outreach Program based on their care story. With their mentors' support, and the work of Reform Radio, how are they using their creativity to turn their lives around?

The program is presented by current Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ 1Xtra daytime presenter Yasmin Evans, who is originally from Manchester and has been specifically commissioned as part of 1Xtra’s outreach work in the area ahead of 1Xtra Live at Manchester Arena on 11th November.
