Edi Stark talks to Orla O'Loughlin, the dynamic artistic director of The Traverse, Scotland's new writing theatre based in Edinburgh. She tells Edi about the bravest decision of her life when she resigned as head of drama at a boys' grammar school, sold her flat and car and applied to the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama where she was selected as one of only four students to specialise as a director. Having established a successful freelance career working at the Donmar warehouse and Royal Court, she made another brave leap when she moved to Shropshire to run a rural theatre company. She transformed Pentabus's reputation and then made another bold move, this time to Scotland. It was, she tells Edi 'beyond daunting' but irresistible and has become a second home to her husband and two young children.
