Good morning.

I like the story told about Mother Teresa who when cleaning a poor man鈥檚 wounds and wiping away the pus was addressed by an American cameraman who said, 鈥淚 wouldn鈥檛 do that for a thousand dollars.鈥�

鈥淎nd neither would I,鈥� replied the nun.

I only saw Mother Teresa once , and that was at Great St Mary鈥檚 in Cambridge this tiny, (one might say diminutive little) nun with her wizzened walnut face and flashing eyes, this nun in open sandals, white sari and blue bordered veil speaking out for the poor and telling stories of taking abandoned newborn babies from the dustbin s of Calcutta and who when asked about her definition of Christian giving replied that giving wasn鈥檛 giving if it didn鈥檛 really hurt - if it didn鈥檛 really cost you something.

Mother Teresa had her critics of course, and she knew that all too well.

"If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives but be kind anyway... in the final analysis it is between you and God,"

Words which are part of a motto printed on the wall of her own room in Calcutta.

Mother Teresa who had what she termed 'a call within a call', a vocation to leave the security of a comfortable religious order so as to set up one of her own among the very poorest of the world.

Mother Teresa who went on to establish that Order in Calcutta in October 1950 and in whose prayer we find her words,

"Dear Jesus, help me to spread your fragrance everywhere I go.
Touch my soul with your spirit and your love,
Stay with me and I shall begin to shine as you shine and so to shine as to be a light to others.
Amen."
