The Russian Revolution a hundred years on. To mark the centenary Tom Sutcliffe is in Moscow to discuss the forces that led to the Revolution, and to find out how far Russians today embrace or reject such a pivotal moment in their country's history. He talks to a senior member of President Putin's political party, Konstantin Kosachev. And he is joined by the journalists Mikhail Zygar and Arkady Ostrovsky and the Director of the Tretyakov Gallery, Zelfira Tregulova.

Arkady Ostrovsky

Arkady Ostrovsky is a Russian-born, British journalist who has spent fifteen years reporting from Moscow, first for the Financial Times and then as a bureau chief for The Economist. He studied Russian theatre history in Moscow and holds a PhD in English Literature from Cambridge University. His translation of Tom Stoppard's trilogy, The Coast of Utopia, has been published and staged in Russia. The Invention Of Russia: The Journey From Gorbachev’s Freedom To Putin’s War was published in September 2015.

Mikhail Zygar

Mikhail Zygar is the former editor in chief of the only independent TV station in Russia, TV Rain (Dozhd). Previously, he worked for Newsweek Russia and the business daily Kommersant. Zelfira Tregulova

Zelfira Tregulova, has been the curator and Director of the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow since 2015. The Tretyakov Gallery (est. 1856) is the largest in Moscow and showcases Russian fine art from the 11th - early 20th C. There is also a sister gallery, New Tretyakov, housing modern art from 20th C. to the present. Since 2013, Tregulova worked as director of the Rosizo State Museum and Exhibition Center in Moscow, through which she organized projects in Moscow and Russia, as well as a number of exhibitions abroad, including at Tate Modern in London. She previously served as Deputy Director General for Exhibitions and International Relations at the Moscow Kremlin Museum. She was co-curator of the β€œRUSSIA!” exhibition at the Guggenheim in 2005.Β
