The Kings Cross Skip Garden
What started as a moveable vegetable garden built in skips, has grown into a community project which provides all kinds of opportunities for local young people. Appropriately, it is also known as βthe garden of a thousand handsβ.
The project brings together people of all ages and backgrounds. And those involved have learnt about sustainability, construction, how to grow food, as well as how to market and sell their produce. The emphasis is for hands on activities with young people, working alongside business volunteers to develop and implement ideas that have a positive impact on the environment in and around Kingβs Cross.
The setting for the skip gardens, Kingβs Cross is one of the largest and most exciting redevelopments in London. The 67-acre site has a rich history and a unique setting. What was an underused industrial wasteland is being transformed into a new part of the city with homes, shops, offices, galleries, bars, restaurants, schools, and even a university. Itβs a whole new piece of London with a brand new postcode β N1C
