New research published by the think tank Centre for Cities examines the economic impact of moving public sector jobs from London to other parts of the country. It focuses on the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ’s move to Salford, which it says brought little wider impact for employment in the region. Paul Swinney is the principal economist of Centre for Cities.

The death rate for people admitted to hospital with heart failure has fallen in England and Wales. This meant around 500 lives were saved last year, compared to the previous 12 months according to NHS England. Professor Sir Nilesh Samani is medical director at the British Heart Foundation.

The Cuban Government has launched an investigation after a series of unexplained incidents reportedly left several US officials in Havana with severe hearing loss. US State Department officials believe a covert sonic device may have caused the symptoms among their staff although the exact cause remains unclear. It has emerged that Northumbria Police force paid an informant convicted of raping a child more than Β£10,000 for help during an investigation which resulted in the conviction of a Tyneside grooming gang. Lord Macdonald is the former director of public prosecutions.
