The Public Services Ombudsman on Parking Penalties, Court Summons & More...

Unfair parking penalties, car tax court summons, the wait for many on driving licence renewals and the Public Service Ombudsman is live in studio.

This week: Marie Anderson the Public Services Ombudsman is live in studio to answer queries. Marie can investigate complaints about public services, to ensure fair and efficient public administration and wants to make the public aware of her role and how she can help.

We hear from one listener who got in touch with On Your Behalf as a last resort- He has recently received a court summons about car tax for a car he doesn't even own. He has written to the DVLA, he has phoned them and is now getting letters from a debt collection agency. For months, On Your Behalf and other Radio Ulster programmes like Nolan and Talkback, have been hearing from listeners about the time it takes to renew a Driving Licence. Some people have medical conditions, others are straightforward renewals and some need their new licence in order to hire a car abroad. Whenever the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ, be it Talkback, Nolan or On Your Behalf, contacts the DVA suddenly it's sorted - should it really take a call from the media to get a Government Department to do its job?
AND remember 80 year old blue badge holder Brian? He has refused to pay a parking fine for 17 months and the lengthy saga with Transport NI came to a climax this week with a scheduled court case. He was more than ready for his day in court - Did David meet Goliath? And who won?...
