Nurseries, Build to rent, Baking
Consumer news. Nurseries warn that government funding for increased free childcare is not enough. Plus the end of the Bake Off effect.
Nurseries in England are warning that local councils are failing to provide enough money to fund an increase in free childcare for three and four year olds. From September, children will be eligible for up to thirty hours a week - if both parents are in work, and don't earn more than a Β£100,000. However the National Day Nurseries Association says a Freedom of Information request shows that most nurseries won't be able to afford to provide the extra hours. The Government says it's putting an extra six billion pounds into early years care.
And If you have been asked to pay new additional charges for nappies, food, or anything else as part of your childcare package, Money Box Live would like to hear from you. E-mail the programme at moneybox@bbc.co.uk. And the programme is on air on Radio 4 at 3pm on Wednesday July 5th.
The Great British Bake Off is the third biggest baking "event" for shops in the UK, after Christmas and Easter, as fans of show attempt to re-create the contestants masterpieces. But sales of baking ingredients have recently slowed down, as have sales of cookery books. The winner of 2012's GBBO, John Whaite discusses baking on the cheap, and whether the "Bake Off effect" has had it's day.
Plus the city institutions moving in to the rental market. What will tenants get from renting flats from large financial companies?
