Episode 6
Alex Jones and Steph McGovern are on a mission to help families change the way they shop. In the West Midlands, they hope to help the Murphy family save some much-needed cash.
In the final episode Alex and Steph are in the West Midlands with the Murphys. CCTV fitter Jason and teaching assistant Kerry are parents to three girls, 11-year-old Sophie, eight-year-old Gracie and three-year-old Esmae. Gadget-mad Kerry is addicted to online shopping and her one click spending is out of control. With bills racking up, as well as a family holiday to Florida to pay for, Kerry needs to rein in her spending, and fast!
Alex and Steph need to show this online shopaholic a different way to shop and hopefully save the family some much-needed cash. While the family are out they take a sneaky peek inside their house and make a pop-up shop with all of family's belongings to finally get them to face up to their spending.
The family want to change their ways, so the programme puts them to the ultimate test by giving their home a bit of a makeover. Their usual products have been replaced and put in plain packaging to open their eyes to alternatives. Most will be cheaper but some will be kept the same to see just how well they know their products. But will the family like Alex and Steph's changes?
Alex travels to the largest bin bag factory in the UK to find out what we should be looking for when buying bin bags. Consumer expert Professor Avi Shankar shows us how retailers are making one-click shopping even easier for us. And we enlist the help of some water sports enthusiasts to put five toasters to the test to see if it pays to spend a bit more or if a cheaper option might come out on top.
The experiment is over, but have the Murphys embraced enough of the new products and are they willing to change their shopping and spending ways to save money for their family holiday to Florida?
