Episode 10 of 12

Including a report about Rhenigidale, which had no road to the village until 1990. Villagers could only come and go by boat or by walking for miles across moorland.

Dòmhnall Moireasdan a' toirt sùil air ais air cuid de na sgeulachdan a nochd air a' phrògam aithriseach Cearcall. Nam measg: aithris air an sgeama leasachaidh an IDP agus pìos air Rèinigeadal sna Hearadh anns nach robh fiù's rathad aig an àm.

Donald Morrison presents another selection from the programme Cearcall, originally transmitted in the late 70s and the 80s.

This episode features several reports, notable among them the IDP development scheme, which was vital for the islands. At one time the IDP was on everyone's lips in the western Isles, and was worth Β£20 million, a huge amount in the 1980s. Crofting and fish farming were the main focus for development and every township applied for a share of IDP support.

The second report is about Rhenigidale, which had no road to the village until 1990. Villagers could only come and go by boat or by walking for miles across moorland. The final feature is about education in the islands and how the council was planning to close small rural schools while also trying to encourage bilingual education.
