Delia Derbyshire eightieth birthday special
A celebration of the music and spirit of Delia Derbyshire from the Radiophonic Workshop. Featuring her finest work The Inventions for Radio and an interview recorded in 1998.
A celebration of the music and spirit of Delia Derbyshire, electronic music pioneer and employee of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radiophonic Workshop who would have turned 80 this week. Stuart features one of Delia's finest works, not the Dr Who theme tune for which she is most famous, but the Inventions For Radio. The Inventions is a four-part series created for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ in 1964 in collaboration with the playwright Barry Bermange who recorded interviews in care homes for elderly people about four subjects - their dreams, their opinions on God, the afterlife and on growing old. The programme also features an interview recorded in 1998 by the broadcaster John Cavanagh that reveals Delia's playful sense of humour, her sharp mind and worldly frustrations.
