After the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb, looked inside, and, horrified, realised that Jesus was no longer there. She wept because she thought that His Body had been stolen. ‘Where have you taken my Lord?’ was the question, but the answer that came to her changed humanity forever: ‘Why do you seek the living amongst the dead? He is not here, He is risen.’
That was the proclamation of the angels to Mary Magdalene, and it is easy for us to merely look at that as nothing more than a wonderful story and forget that Christ is risen, alive and working in and through us today.

In our Coptic Orthodox tradition, during these holy 50 days between the Resurrection and Pentecost, there is a greeting that is shared between the faithful. The first will say ‘Christ is risen’ and the other will respond ‘He is risen indeed’. That is a reminder that the Resurrection is not just a day or an event but is a continuing reality and a daily victory over evil and death for us all if we choose to believe it.

We are reminded that His Resurrection was not merely a historic event of the past but that He is risen, and because of this we are accompanied, and empowered, by Him in everything we experience and along every part of our journey.

Lord, we pray that You continue to reveal Yourself to us individually, and work in and through us so that collectively we may proclaim the hopeful message of your Resurrection and the life-saving reality of Your sacrifice for us on the Cross.
