Body Ethics, Refugees and an Irish Saint

Audrey Carville and guests discuss body ethics, elections, refugees and Irish saints.

Who owns me? Just how much control do we have over our own lives and those of our loved ones? In the light of the Baby Charlie case Audrey discusses medical ethics with ethicist Dr Melissa McCullough, medical law expert Eileen Fegan, author and Rabbi, Jonathan Romain and Dr Paul Middleton from the Dept of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Chester.

Election fatigue has set in, but is there a moral imperative to engage with the democratic process? Bishop Donal McKeown and Rev Dr Norman Hamilton wrestle with what role church and civil society should play.

In a few weeks the first beatification to happen on Irish soil will take place marking the long journey towards sainthood for Father John Sullivan. Michael Kelly from the Irish Catholic tells the fascinating story of the man born into the Protestant Ascendancy but who became a Jesuit in his thirties and was renowned to have healing powers, including once healing the nephew of Irish revolutionary Michael Collins. Both the Catholic and Anglican archbishops of Dublin will take part in the ceremony.

Alan Meban has just returned from Italy where he visited church projects working with young refugeess from the Middle East and North Africa. He tells Audrey about the ongoing crisis and also how one area was hostile to immigrants, until a baby was born and subsequently adopted by the whole village.
