Mustard revival and the rise in veganism
Charlotte Smith hears about the rise in veganism and the reaction of farmers. There is also a look at the revival of the English mustard industry.
Veganism appears to be on the rise. The Vegan Society claims that half a million people in the UK now reject all animal products in their diets and their lives. For farmers this presents problems and potential opportunities. Charlotte Smith kicks off a week of debate with Tom Kuehnel from the Vegan Society and Michael Oakes from the National Farmers Union.
There's also a look at the revival of the English mustard industry. The last growers came close to pulling out after a disastrous 2007 harvest but now the number of growers is on the rise.
