The Visit
Comedy of correspondence between a recently divorced woman and a recently imprisoned man. The love story between Jenny and Gerry could be over.
Jenny is a 40 something adventure-seeking mum, forced to move back in with her parents in a posh suburb of Glasgow, after her marriage broke down (in no small part due to her lust for life...and the gardener!).
Gerry is a 40 something self-proclaimed scholar, and inmate of a prison on the other side of town. He's really warmed to Jenny and says that her letters are the best thing that has happened to him inside, even better than his TV soaps.
The couple (yes, couple!) were supposed to meet at a Liddel family funeral, but after a breakdown they missed each other by minutes. Doubt has set in, and with only letters to reach each other, it's a tough time for the unlikely pair. Both are battling with depression, and have very different ways of coping with it. The solution to their problems may just come from Gerry's cellmate Clarkie's "adventurous" correspondence of his own. It's make or break for Jenny and Gerry, and both need to gain their freedom from their surroundings.
