For the Love of Bhangra!

Presenter Hardeep Singh Kohli speaks to musicians, producers and experts to find out how and why bhangra has managed to find a place in the lives of so many British Asians today.

This week Asian Network Presents celebrates those people who have all made bhangra the centre of their lives.

Originating from North India, bhangra describes both a dance and a musical genre, and is known for being THE sound of most British-Asian celebrations.

Presenter Hardeep Singh Kohli speaks to musicians, producers and experts to find out how and why bhangra has managed to find a place in the lives of so many British-Asians today.

We go through Asian Network's bhangra-crazy presenter Dipps Bhamrah's LP collection to find out what he considers the ultimate classic albums and find out what he would be doing now if bhangra hadn't become his life. Hardeep asks what the ingredients of a good bhangra song are and discovers the answer to the eternal chicken and egg question - what came first? Bhangra dance or bhangra music?

We also hear from those people who despite having no links to the subcontinent, have discovered bhangra and been so affected that they've been compelled to now make it. One is the lead singer of Finland's one and only Bhangra group, Shava, who take their inspiration from 90's British bhangra groups and another is Welsh singer Nesdi Jones, who after a visit to India, achieved an Asian Network Chart number one with the song 'London'.
