4 Extra Debut. Hugh Scully visits Plymouth and reflects on the part that Drake, Napoleon and Hitler played in the city's history. From December 1991.
Hugh Scully returns to Plymouth - the Devon city where he began his career as a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ TV presenter - to reflect on the roles Francis Drake, Napoleon Bonaparte and Adolf Hitler played in the city's fascinating history.
Down Your Way was one of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's longest-running radio series - starting on the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Service in 1946 and ending its run on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 4 in 1992. Using a variety of hosts, including Richard Dimbleby and Brian Johnston, the programme toured villages, towns and cities across the UK. At the height of its success in the 1950s, the series was attracting 10 million listeners a week.
Hugh Scully (1943-2015) was best known for presenting the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Antiques Roadshow from 1981 to 2000. But he originally started in radio, before moving to TV for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ South West's news programme Spotlight in 1965, which earned him his big break on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ1's popular teatime news show Nationwide.
